Fashion as design: mi experiencia con un diplomado en línea.

Hace tiempo vi en facebook que el MoMa estaba ofertando cursos en línea gratuitos, así que sin pensarlo dos veces entré al enlace de la publicación. Y si! En efecto, este museo y otras instituciones ofertan diplomados y cursos más largos a través de la plataforma Coursera

Some time ago I saw in facebook that the MoMa was offering free on line courses, so, without thinking twice I clicked in the publication link. And indeed, this museum and other institutions offer several courses through the plataform Coursera. 

La oferta educativa es muy amplia y gratuita si lo que quieres es aprender por gusto, si quieres  el diploma para tu CV es necesario pagar el curso. Yo me decidí por un curso llamado Fashion as Design ofrecido por el Muse de Arte Moderno de Nueva York y lo hice en modalidad gratuita. 

The educational offer is wide and free if you want to learn just for fun, but if you want the certificate for the CV you need to pay the course. I decided for a course called Fashion as Design offered by the Museum of Moder Art and I did it free of charge. 

Este curso se basa en 111 prendas usadas en una exposición del MoMa en 2017, algunas ya con una larga historia y otras creadas para la exhibición, pero todas con la característica de haber tenido  gran impacto no solo en el mundo de la moda, también en la historia, el arte y la sociedad, dejando así de lado el carácter frívolo que se le suele dar a la ropa y la moda. También se trata el tema de la producción, contaminación de la industria y apropiación cultural.

This course is bases in 111 items used in a MoMa's exposition in 2017, some of them with a large history and others created for the exhibit, but all with the characteristic of having had a big impact not only in the fashion world, in History, art and society too, leaving aside the frivolous character attributed to the garment and fashion. The production, contamination of the industry and cultural appropriation are topics covered too. 

Este curso te invita a la reflexión de algo tan común como la ropa, de porque vestimos lo que vestimos; como ser más responsables como consumidores; entender porque la alta costura y lo elaborado artesanalmente tiene un costo más elevado; como es que la sociedad ha cambiado y prendas que antes solían causar cierta impresión ahora han tomado otro significado. 

This course invites you to the reflextion of something común as garment, why we waer what we wear; how be responsable consumers; understand why de haute couture and the handcrafted made have a high price; how the society has changed and garment that use to cause certain impression now have taken another meaning. 

Fue un curso que disfrute mucho y del cual también aprendí bastante y no solo de moda e historia, también mejoré mi lectura y redacción en inglés, pues el curso es en este idioma. Una de mis partes favoritas fue el reflexionar sobre mi closet y escoger dos prendas e incluirlas en alguno de los temas vistos.

It was a course that I ejoyed  much and from wich I also learned a lot and not only of fashión and history, I improved my reading and writting in english too, the course is in this lenguage. One of my favourite parts was to reflect about my closet and choose two items and include them in one of the seen topics. 

La duración de éste es de 7 semanas y en promedio debes trabajar de 2 a 3 horas por semana, sin embargo por la modalidad en línea puedes terminarlo antes; así que si al igual que yo eres de los que puede estar en casa en esta crisis sanitaria, hacer un curso en línea es buena opción, ya sea en Coursera o cualquier otra plataforma, opciones hay. 

The duration is 7 weeks and on average you should work 2 or 3 hours per week, nevertheless for the for the online modality you can finish before; so if you like me can stay at home in this health crisis, take an online course is a good choice, either in Coursera or any other plataform, options exist.
